Neutrophil granulocytes are the first cells to arrive at the site of an infection or injury. Using different strategies like phagocytosis, reactive oxygen or nitrogen species, antimicrobial peptides or NETs formation neutrophils clear an infection in a short period of time. However in pustular psoriasis inappropriate infiltration and accumulation of neutrophils in the skin lead to systemic inflammation. Corina’s project investigates whether/how the density of neutrophil granulocytes plays a role in the inflammatory process when activating stimuli are received.
